Image Completion Time: i was working on

im own some explanations to this image.

I decided to do something crazy :)
Namely, check how much simple workstation can handle :)
The idea was to create exact models just like in a real life.
That means no displacement, just pure grometry.
And it was a modelling experiment, to see if it's worth to suffer so
much.

I realized it would be too simple to create a character :).
So I asked my wife, Marta Wysocka, to make an amazing helmet based
on LOTR movie.

While she was working on it, I was working on clothes.
And there was something missing in the fabric.
When I saw her helmet I had to do something like she was doing.
So I did the brooch. And it was a really small object compared to
her helmet. After that I have hudge respect for her :)

Anyway, finally we finished our family project :)
In the making of this character I used maya and after zbrush for
details of mouth and around the eyes.
Textures in photoshop.
To create cloth I used maya cloth, and maya fur. As far as I
remember there were 1 300 000 small hair in the fabric.
Also tiny hair on the face, but I don't remember right now how much.
Long story short, I tried to do everything exactly as it is in the
real life.

It's up to you to decide if we've reached our goal.

truely wonderful image!especially i like the expression of the eyes.peaceful,thoughtful,.for sure you captured the spirit of an elf.also like the helmet and clothes.is there any chance of seeing the whole person one day?

Very Nice work, The skin texture is so tangible. the fur addition to the cloth breaks the edges very well. How did you get 1.3 mil to render with maya fur without crashing? I have seen Shave handle that amount, but had trouble with maya fur.

leporello- i dont know, because in a not big fan of characters.

madprof- i have 4gb of ram. anyway i split this amount, and i render it 500 000 and 800 000 fur at once.
i did it on layers. using layers you can render every amount:)

thx for comments

I have looked for evidence of 3D modeling. This looks like a photograph! I am amazed at the level of sophistication this image has! Wonderful work!

One word-Perfection.Two questions.
1.If this was a full sized character how much time would it take you to create it and how many polygons would it consist of?
2.How many polygons is it made from now?

Really well done! I can only dream of making stuff like this.
If you don't mind a suggestion from an amateur photographer: if its photo realism you're after the extent of blurring from the background would suggest a much shorter depth of field. Of course you might lose some of that beautiful detail in the helmet tho, so I'm not sure it would be worth it :)

I appreciate the attention to detail, specially the fine hairs on the face, very nice, however, personally, the corner of the mouth seems a little flat. The helm is very nice as is the clip for the cape.

Simply beautiful work on this Galadhrim soldier. Although the cape would probably have been deep blue...
