If you ever used Icy v3(r&h inhouse compositor), group nodes are subwindows instead of being in the main node window. So you can sub group stuff that you can go into that have their own nodes workspace. You can also have nested groups. It makes organizing your node tree much easier. Then you just alt+right arrow and alt+left arrow to move in and out of groups.
